Songs

A Song is a work-in-progress in your library. You get there by converting a Note from the Idea Pad. Songs are where the writing happens — adding sections, entering chords, and refining structure until the song is ready to certify.

Getting to Song stage

Songs start as Notes in the Idea Pad. When a Note has a {title: Song Name} directive saved, the Convert to Song button becomes active. Click it and the Note is deleted — a Song appears in your library in its place.

Workspace determines ownership
If you're in a team workspace when you convert, the Song is created in that team's library. Switch to Personal workspace first if you want a personal Song.

The WIP badge

Songs appear in your library with a WIP badge. This signals that the song is still being developed — it isn't shareable, can't be added to setlists, and won't appear in Live mode. The badge disappears when you certify.

Editing a Song

From the Song page, use the Edit button to update the song's metadata:

Title (required)

The name of the song. Carried over from the Note's title directive.

Artist

The original artist or writer. Optional.

Key & mode

The song's original key (C through B) and mode (major or minor). SongChart uses this as the reference for chord storage and NNS display.

Tempo

Beats per minute (1–400). Optional.

Album art URL

A direct link to album artwork. Shown as a thumbnail in the song list. Optional.

Sections and chords are added directly on the Song page using the section editor. See Song sections for details.

Certifying as a SongChart

When the song is finished, click Certify on the song page. This promotes the Song to a SongChart and unlocks the full feature set:

Arrangements — create named versions with key and section overrides

Visibility controls — share with your team or make public

Setlists — add the SongChart to services

Live mode — display the chart on stage or during rehearsal

Print chart — generate a print-ready layout

Certification requires complete sections
Every section must have a type assigned (Verse, Chorus, Bridge, etc.) before you can certify. SongChart will tell you which sections still need one.
